Optimist is baking cake (lustrum activity)

09 februari 2018 - On February the 8th and 9th we celebrated our lustrum with cake! On thursday we baked cakes in the classrooms, with the help of some parents. On Friday the children decorated the cakes, after which parents joined us to socialize, celebrate and eat cake.

National Reading days

National Reading days

31 januari 2018 - By reading regularly, we encourage children to start and enjoy reading. Having fun together while reading a story is an important factor in promoting reading. On Wednesday, January the 31st fathers, mothers, grandfathers, grandmothers were invited to come and read aloud. Some chose theirown  favorite book.

Mad Science

Mad Science

29 januari 2018 - Last week our students participated in two Mad Science shows.

 

Mad Science offers an after-school programme in our school. During these lessons children engage in exciting hands-on activities, watch spectacular demonstrations, participate in inquiry-based discussions. Science programs are themed around a particular area of science and include such topics as electricity, magnetism, optics, biology and many more.

 

At this moment the course will be in Dutch. We are looking into possibilities to offer an English course.

28 januari 2018 - Our brain is special because it does lots of amazing things. In the first unit of IPC we are finding out how the brain works. Once we understand how our brain works and what we can do to make it work even better, then we can improve the way that we learn.

26 januari 2018 - We make learning visible, through which children are experiencing their growth. This inspires fun in learning and develops ownership and empowerment in the learning process. Also during our lessons physical education (PE) this week. First we found out the success criteria for spreading over the bench. Then we practiced and improved our skills.

The youth sport pass

25 januari 2018 - The youth sport pass is an initiative by Team Sportservice, which supports schools and sport associations, and a lot of sport associations in the Municipality of Haarlemmermeer. The youth sport pass makes it possible for children to discover different types of sports. With this sports pass children are able to try all sorts of sports, in a sports hall, a swimming pool, out on the field, individually or as a part of a team. After a couple of introductory lessons (approx. 4) you can decide whether or not you want to become a member of a specific sport association. There are no obligations.

Opening International School with the entire school

Opening International School with the entire school

10 januari 2018 - Today we celebrated the opening of Optimist International School. Our choir 'Waanzinnig optimistisch (extremely optimistic)' performed the song 'Try everything' of Shakira. Students of De Optimist made flags for our new international students in the colours of their country of origin. Those were handed over by the students.

 

On the 28th of March there will be an official opening of the international school.

08 januari 2018 - Today we have welcomed our first students of Optimist International School. Everyone was really excited to start. Wednesday we will have a gathering with the whole school to celebrate the opening of Optimist International School and welcome our new students.
