A Celebration of Reading, Creativity and Culture

Every April, we celebrate Reading Month at OIS to promote a love of books, nurture imagination, and strengthen reading culture across our community. Last year, we bound and catalogued books written by our own students — and those books drew a lot of attention throughout the year!

This year, students once again celebrated our love of stories with creative projects prepared at home:

📚 Groups 1–4 designed their own unique bookmarks
🎨 Groups 5–8 created original book cover designs

All of the beautiful work was submitted to the library and is now proudly displayed in our OIS Library. If you haven’t had a chance to see them in person, we’re sharing a few photos in this newsletter to give you a glimpse of the creativity on display.

A big congratulations to all our students — we’re so proud of your effort, imagination, and enthusiasm for reading. We’re already looking forward to next year! 💛

As summer approaches, we’re preparing the library for a fresh start in the new school year. Books are being repaired, sorted, and reshelved. If you still have any library books at home, we kindly ask you to return them before heading off on holiday — that way we can get everything ready in time.

Reading in your home language matters.
We believe that strong literacy in a child’s first language lays the foundation for confident learning across all subjects — including new languages. That’s why we’re committed to making our library a space where many languages and cultures are represented.

Heading abroad this summer?

If you’re travelling to your home country — or anywhere else — and you happen to find a great children’s book in your language, we’d love it if you’d consider donating a copy to our library. Every new book makes our collection more inclusive and gives students a chance to see their language and culture reflected on the shelves.

If you keep the receipt, the school is happy to reimburse the cost of any donated book.

Summer is a time to rest, recharge, and explore.

Whether you’re travelling far or staying close to home, we hope your break is full of joyful moments, meaningful stories, and, of course… plenty of reading.

Wishing you a relaxing, book-filled holiday!
Warm regards,
The OIS Library Team
